Celebrating Chuseok 한가위 축제

11.00–16.00 Great Court, galleries and Clore Centre for Eduction
Free, just drop in – some events have limited capacityWelcome to a special family day to celebrate Chuseok, the Korean Harvest Moon Festival. Enjoy traditional music by Jeong Ga Ak Hoe, K-Pop dance performances and a costumed photo booth, plus themed workshops, storytelling and a special workshop with artist Ik-Joong Kang. All activities are free, just drop in. Activities are suitable for all ages unless stated. Please stay with your children at all times.
Supported by the Korea Foundation and presented in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Centre UK.
한국의 명절 추석을 맞아 영국박물관에서 준비한 한가위 축제에 여러분을 초대합니다. 정가악회의 전통 국악과 케이팝 댄스팀의 공연을 즐기실 수 있으며, 다양한 체험활동과 전래동화 구연, 그리고 현대작가 강익중씨와 함께하는 특별 워크샵도 준비되어 있습니다.

Create a your own colourful yeon (traditional Korean shield kite) and jegi chagi (hacky sack) with artist Davina Drummond.
Make an ancestor offering 제사상 만들기 체험

Design and make an offering to an ancestor and leave it on our growing installation with artist katehers RHEE. With additional support of Berlin Senate Chancellery – Cultural Affairs.
Performance: K-Pop dancers 케이팝 댄스 공연

Performers from the London K-Pop dance workshop will dance to famous K-Pop songs – Korean pop music!
Clore Centre
Traditional Korean games 전통놀이 체험

Play traditional Korean games of jegi chagi and tuho. Pitch your arrows and kick your jegi in our games area. Who will win?
Dress up photobooth 포토존 및 한복 체험
11.00–16.00, Clore Centre for Education East Foyer
Try on hanbok (traditional Korean clothes) and have your photo taken in our photobooth. Take your photo home with you or share on social media. This is likely to be very popular – queues expected.

This newly refurbished gallery creates an encounter with the peninsula’s art, history and culture, through the British Museum’s important objects and also through loans from partner institutions, including the National Museum of Korea. The gallery was created in 2000 thanks to the generosity of the Korea Foundation and refurbished in 2014 with a grant from the National Museum of Korea.

Complement your Chuseok celebrations with Korean-themed food and drink, available to buy throughout the event. Includes kimbap (seaweed rice rolls), jeon (vegetable pancakes), kimchi, gochujang pulled pork, rice wine, Korean beer and pomegranate ice tea. Food supplied by Benugo.
