Korea Day Festival and group exhibition in Coventry

Coventry University is hosting a special Korean cultural event on 1 October and a month-long art exhibition with some established and emerging Korean artists. Families and friends are welcome as the event is open to the public.

The fine details are still being finalised, but the big picture shouldn’t change. I’ll update this post when I get more info. Thanks to Dr Eunju Hwang for sharing.

Meet the participants

Since 2008,Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) has been dedicated to promoting friendship and understanding between Korea and the UK through various programmes of cultural activities and events. These include visual arts, performing arts, music, literature, food and film, as well as education programmes that aim to deepen the knowledge of Korean heritage, history and culture.

Y Dance Project is a dance company exploring movement vocabularies combined with Korean dance and Contemporary dance and challenging various formats, including screen dance, installation arts, and music. Y Dance Project mainly focuses on the issues of society in dance works, bringing Korean tradition and culture.

Hangwa refers to the Korean traditional confectionery. Located in Galgol village in Gangneung, Galgol Food Co. has been making delicious hangwa for more than 150 years. Recognised for its quality, taste and history, Bongseok CHOI, the grandmaster, was designated as a human cultural asset in 2013.

The K-Pop Dance Society Coventry Uni (KDSCU)is a K-Pop enthusiast that loves to dance and spend time together. Starting with amazing workshops with professional dancers, through amazing K-Pop clubbing nights and even hosting a National Dance Competition. KDSCU has an amazing Competition Team that won many awards through hard work and determination.

Haegee LEE (Soprano) and David Junghoon KIM (Tenor) are internationally well-recognised opera singers at Royal Opera House, English National Opera, etc. Successfully graduated from the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, they have made a series of notable appearances. Currently, Haegee LEE is cast in e as Papagena and in Rigoletto as Gilda. David Junghoon KIM is cast in Macbeth as Macduff.

Korean Senior Citizens UK, led by Mrs Sunhwa Griffiths, has been actively promoting Korean culture in the UK, especially in New Malden and Kingston upon Thames. Its members perform traditional Korean music and dance, and they also promote Korean traditional poetry and calligraphy.
