In this discourse, we explore the concept of ‘Directionality’, which represents the trajectory from one celestial point to another. Among the foundational elements of form – point, line, and plane – it is the ‘line’ that carries a distinct sense of direction. These converging points, where directional lines intersect, radiate with a captivating brilliance reminiscent of stars in the night sky. These luminous celestial points symbolise the essence of every moment in our lives, culminating in what we refer to as ‘constellations’.

This lecture meticulously examines the unique attributes of Eastern lines, their intricate interplay, and their impact on visual perspectives. Within the broader scope of Constellation Links, the ‘Transparenter’ series unravels the gradual assimilation and ultimate disappearance of inherent existence within the realms forged by human desires.

In tandem with the lecturer Seong Heui Kim’s artistic process, we embark on a journey to understand the distinct characteristics of Hanji, the traditional Korean paper that underlies her works, along with the nuanced properties of ink, and the application of natural dyes and pigments.

Seong Heui Kim, known as Hemyeong, is a distinguished artist and a professor specialising in Oriental Painting at Seoul National University. With a rich experience as an artist that includes a group show at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Kim boasts an extensive clientele, including industry leaders like LG, as well as a diverse array of collections from various esteemed companies. Her career as the Director of the Museum of Art at SNU and as the Dean of the Seoul National University College of Fine Arts underscores her profound influence in the field.
