From the perspective of an adult, Kim recounts his earliest memories of systematic rights violations at the institutional and state level, revealing how these experiences continue to affect those who have escaped to democratic societies. |

Timothy Cho, a North Korean human rights activist and two-time defector, will share insights into the experiences of North Korean refugees and their global diaspora. He will explore how they’ve rebuilt their lives in democratic societies, highlighting their significant role in activism aimed at opening up North Korea. |

Dr. Sarah Son, who earned her PhD in identity and inter-Korean relations from SOAS in 2014, spent five years in South Korea working on North Korean human rights issues. Her presentation will reflect on the progress in holding North Korea accountable for human rights violations a decade after the UN Commission of Inquiry report. She will outline the developments in human rights documentation and activism following the UN report, highlighting achievements and shortcomings. |
