Bek Hyunjin
Bek Hyunjin is an omnidirectional artist based in Seoul, South Korea. His music career started in 1994 as the vocalist of experimental pop-rock unit “UhUhBoo Project” along with LEENALCHI’s Jang Younggyu and Won Il. In 2008, he released his first solo album Time of Reflection, which was selected as one of the 100 best indie albums in 2014. He released his second solo album Light, Many in 2019. Since 2008 he has also made his name as a painter, actor and a film director. Legendary choreographer Pina Bausch used his music in Nefés and invited Bek Hyunjin to perform with her in Germany.
Seoul Manner
Premiered last year to great acclaim, Bek Hyunjin’s experimental play “Bek Hyunjin Show: Public Broadcasting” reflects his philosophy that “humanity and civilization don’t modify, improve and evolve, but merely change and shift.” This unique work, blending all the mediums he works with, caught the eye of Anda Winters, the Artistic Director and Programmer of The Coronet Theatre, who immediately decided to invite it to her stage. Due to the large scale of the production, only the music section of the play will be presented in this performance, with an expanded focus. Most of the songs performed were composed by Bek Hyunjin over the past five years, and they will be featured on his upcoming album Seoul Manner set for release in spring 2025. The setlist will also contain works from his 2019 album Light, Many.
