In this latest example of Korean culture reaching further and further into our daily lives, the BBC’s popular TV show The Great British Sewing Bee takes Korea as its theme for the 4th round of its latest series. Unusually, they also have a guest judge for this round to help arbitrate between the various creations: Eudon Choi, whose shows at London Fashion Week have been featured on LKL’s pages over the years. Here’s the official blurb from the BBC website:
It’s week 4, and the ten remaining sewers celebrate the rich fashion and textile traditions of Korea. Renowned fashion designer Eudon Choi joins as a special guest judge.
In the Pattern Challenge, the sewers take on the jeogori, a historic Korean garment now seen in contemporary womenswear and K-Pop style.
In the Transformation Challenge, taekwondo outfits and colourful belts are reimagined into striking new creations.
Finally, in the Made to Measure Challenge, the sewers design evening wear inspired by the cheollik, once worn by military officials and now a symbol of modern Korean fashion.
The programme airs on 5 August at 9pm on BBC1 and will be available on iPlayer thereafter.
