April 1952, at the height of the Korean War. A small military transport ship carrying both South Korean soldiers and North Korean prisoners is struck by a storm and wrecked near an Island. Six survivors—divided by ideology yet bound by circumstance—wash up on a deserted island. Among them are Captain Yeong-beom, a weary officer haunted by guilt, and Sun-ho, a traumatised North Korean soldier broken by the loss of his brother. As tensions mount and hope fades, Yeong-beom invents a lie to keep the men from turning on each other: that a gentle island Goddess is watching over them. What begins as a fragile deception becomes a shared faith. The men start living by the Goddess’s imagined rules—no fighting, no shouting, respect for others, and daily rituals of song and care. Their belief slowly transforms despair into moments of peace and humour. Yet when rescue seems possible, the illusion they created begins to fracture, forcing them to face the truth behind their survival and the cost of redemption. A poignant, lyrical story of humanity in war, The Goddess Is Watching explores how compassion and imagination can save even those trapped between duty and despair.
