‘Not the centre. Not the spotlight. But where it all begins.’
4482 [SASAPARI] presents its latest curated exhibition, Ding! Creative Corners, offering a fresh approach to experiencing contemporary art. The exhibition will run from 29 September to 27 October across three local cafés in South West London, featuring works by emerging Korean artists Jiyoen Ryu, Sarah Na, Soryun Ahn, and Sumin An.
The core concept of the exhibition is to move beyond the traditional “white cube” gallery and situate art within everyday, intimate community spaces. The three cafés — 63 High Street Café, Café Macarong, and Yayhouse — serve not merely as exhibition venues but as social and cultural platforms where artworks and audiences naturally interact.
The participating artists explore themes of community, nature, and exchange through a range of media, including painting, digital prints, and installation. Their works engage with the character of each space, creating new meanings rather than simply decorating the venue.
Curator Hyeryoung Jun states, “This exhibition aims to showcase the work of emerging Korean artists active in the UK while offering audiences the opportunity to engage with art in a more familiar, everyday environment. By presenting cafés as intimate cultural hubs, the exhibition expands the possibilities of artistic experience.”
This exhibition is also part of the ongoing work of 4482 [SASAPARI] in fostering cultural connections between Korea and the UK. Based in London, this non-profit arts organisation curates and presents the work of emerging artists, centering on cultural exchange between Korea and the UK, and has consistently carried out a variety of exhibitions and creative projects.
Within this context, the exhibition poses fundamental questions for the audience: What does it mean to encounter art outside a gallery? How can everyday spaces transform into platforms for artistic dialogue? How do Korean artists resonate within London’s multi-layered cultural landscape?
Ultimately, Ding! Creative Corners brings visibility to the unseen, demonstrating that art can thrive not only within major institutions but also within everyday life.
