Oh Soojung Blogathon

Still from A Virgin Stripped Bare by her Bachelors

To coincide with another retrospective of the complete oeuvre of Hong Sang-soo, Hell on Frisco Bay has announced a Blog-a-thon on the subject of A Virgin Stripped Bare by her Bachelors on March 21 this year.

I gather that what this means is that anyone who runs a blog and who is interested can write an article and post it on their blog on that particular day. And so there will be loads of posts on Oh Soojung to read that day on various sites around the blogosphere. I’m assuming that somewhere there will be a list of all the blogs who are participating.

I’m not sure that I will be writing a blog post on it myself (it may, however, inspire me to get the DVD out of the drawer again), but I know that there are a lot of you out there who are interested in Korean film and maybe might want to participate in this. So, if any of you want to use this site to post your musings on what I think is Hong’s finest, you will be most welcome. We can have our own mini blogathon here.

Make it a tribute to the late Lee Eun-ju, an appreciation of Hong’s work, an exploration of the links between Hong and Marcel Duchamp, or whatever you like.

Let me know.

  1. Thanks, Philip, for spreading the word! Your assumptions are correct: I’ll definitely be keeping a running list of the links as they come in on that day, and anyone else of course can maintain a running list as well if they want to.

I was torn between using the Korean title and the English festival title of the film in my announcement, so I’m glad to see someone using the version I didn’t pick, as it’s a pleasing title as well.

I think it’s going to be quite a day!
