The Taekwondo Demonstration Team from the Korean National University of Sport will be touring six cities in the UK. They will work with Taekwondo clubs around the country to develop global talent ahead of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Taekwondo has been an official Olympic sport since the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and is currently the most popular martial art in the world. There has been growing interest in Taekwondo in the UK with Sarah Stevenson winning the Bronze medal in her weight category at the Beijing Olympic Games.
The Global Talent Development Tour is the first of its kind in the UK and it will provide a golden opportunity for aspiring Taekwondo Olympians in the UK. The tour will kick off in London, and tickets are available for this event. The rest of the workshops will be free of charge but will require registration in advance. The Taekwondo Demonstration Team from Korea will be working closely with participants to provide tips on improving technique and form.

The Tottenham performance starts at 6:30pm according to a leaflet issued at the Thames Festival on Sunday. Judging by the three one hour demonstrations I saw at the Thames Festival at the weekend this will be well worth going to if you are in London.
The KCCUK website has details of the tour at
http://london.korean-culture.org/navigator.do?menuCode=200903170055&action=VIEW&seq=21714&promImg=&subImg=
which has some differences (see below) from Philip’s post above, so it may be worth checking with venues:
* Monday.14 at Tottenham (apparently 850 metres from Seven Sisters station) is 6:30pm to 9:30pm
* Saturday.19 is from 12pm to 3pm at:
Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre, Snydale Road, Cudworth, Barnsley S72 8LH
* also Monday.21 from 7pm to 9:30pm at
Bath University, Sports Training Village, Claverton Down, Somerset, BA27AY
According to the links at:
http://www.utftaekwondo.com/calendar.html
after the Tottenham performance on Monday.14 “five of the team will then be doing a city tour in Bournemouth, Milton Keynes, Crawley, Barnsley and Manchester”, and on Tuesday.22 there is a “TBA (to be advised)” as part of that city tour.
My text was grabbed from the KCC website a week or so ago. I would go by what’s on the KCC’s site rather than mine, because they’ve probably updated their details since I grabbed their text. Thanks for the corrections.
