Attached is a full programme of events for North Korea Freedom Week.
Here is an introduction to the week, from Kim Joo-il:
North Korea Freedom Week in Europe 2014
On 18 November, the UN General Assembly Third Committee passed a resolution condemning North Korea for its systematic and widespread human rights violations. The resolution, which followed the findings and recommendations of the UN Commission of Inquiry on human rights in North Korea, was passed with 111 votes in favour to hold the North Korean regime accountable.
North Koreans in the UK had left home in search of freedom. Years of our efforts to bring change to North Korea, including the first North Korea Freedom Week in London in 2012, are now starting to pay off. I pay tribute to Lord David Alton and Fiona Bruce MP who have arranged public hearings and made it possible for us to speak up about our pain and let our voices be heard. I believe all these efforts are finally paying off.
In light of these developments, I am pleased to announce that the 2nd annual North Korea Freedom Week in Europe will be held from 8 to 14 December 2014. This also coincides with the International Human Rights Day on 10 December, and I hope to express our deep concerns for those who suffer in North Korea and to have meaningful discussions on detailed methodology to tackle the human rights situation in North Korea.
On the following pages you will find an itinerary of this year’s events and meetings, introductions to key speakers as well as the film to be shown. Your presence will be greatly appreciated and I look forward to seeing you all.
Serious human rights violations are perpetrated and disguised by the deceitful regime in North Korea and we must act together to put an end to impunity.
I appreciate your continued support and encouragement.
