Celebrating UK Korea Contents Week 2022, Art Center Nabi and KCCUK co-present the exhibition Our Friendly Neighbours and a hybrid art conference East meets East: Han Ma Eum, demonstrating the current trajectories of Korean contemporary art in the commencement of the East meets East project.

East meets East (EmE) is a long-term research project by Art Center Nabi that proposes critical perspectives on media art, technology, history, society, culture, media, and philosophy. Setting sail towards the ‘East’ where the sun rises and the future arrives, EmE 2022 envisions the coming together of We in media ecologies and Han Ma Eum (한마음, Planetary Mind).

The conference East meets East: Han Ma Eum presents planetary mind in the centre of ecological philosophies through a series of events including a keynote, artist talks, a roundtable, showcase presentations and performance, in light of imagining a new We –including human, nonhuman, artificial beings, the Earth.

We invite you to join us to rethink and reimagine the East and a new We at the intersection of art, technology, and society. The charged term ‘East’ is used with intention, not only examining philosophies and aesthetics of the ‘East’ but the manners in which it is attributed to the ‘East’ and how it is transformed in the course of technological development. Actively responding to planetary issues like climate change, war, and the pandemic from the East, we hope to expand our discussions on a shared value system that can actively foster plurality.

East meets East: Han Ma Eum unfolds in the following three sessions:
