Dahye Jeong weaving

Discover the craftsmanship of horsehair weaving with award-winning artist Dahye Jeong in an engaging talk, followed by a live demonstration and hands-on session.

Jeong, winner of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize, reimagines traditional Korean horsehair craftsmanship through contemporary art. Inspired by finely woven horsehair hats worn in the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1897), her work preserves historic techniques while redefining them for a modern audience.

In this engaging talk, Jeong will share insights into her meticulous techniques and the cultural significance of horsehair in Korean craft. She will discuss how she transforms this delicate yet durable material into intricate forms, bridging tradition and contemporary design.

The event will also feature a live demonstration, where Jeong will showcase her working process, offering a rare glimpse into this intricate craft. Attendees can then try on a traditional Korean horsehair hat, experiencing up-close the craftsmanship behind these historical objects.

After winning the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize in 2022, Dahye Jeong helped to revive horsehair traditions, inspired by Joseon Dynasty men’s millinery. She explores new weaves in her work, creating sculptural objects and relief wall pieces. Her award-winning work A Time of Sincerity (2021) gained global recognition, leading to a celebrated solo show. Through meditative weaving, she reflects on the self and on individual mindsets. Inspired by Korean ceramics, she continues innovating, refining intricate weaves, surfaces and colours, pushing the boundaries of horsehair craftsmanship and exploring new artistic possibilities.
