Poster of Lankov talk

A talk on North Korean politics by Andrei Lankov, organised by the Russian Democratic Society and hosted at SOAS on 20 February.

In recent years, one of Moscow’s most widely discussed allies has been the internationally isolated Pyongyang. Comparisons between the two political regimes are often made, summed up in the ironic Russian phrase “north from Korea.” But how much do we really know about this extremely closed country?

Join a lecture by Professor Andrei Lankov of Kookmin University in Seoul on North Korean politics and the fragile balance that has kept North and South Korea from sliding into another war. The lecture will be held in English, so feel free to invite your local friends. After Dr. Lankov finishes his talk, you will also have the opportunity to ask him a question directly. The language of the event is English.

Andrei Lankov is a Russian scholar of Asian studies and a leading specialist in Korean affairs. He is the Director of Korea Risk Group, the parent company of NK News and NK Pro.

Andrei has lived and studied in North Korea, and this rare first-hand experience significantly enriches his academic expertise. In his talk, he will discuss the complexities of North Korea’s role in global politics and will be happy to answer questions from the audience.
