Kpop Flashmob, Food Fest with Samulnori, or photo exhibition with children’s event? You decide

This Saturday (9 July) offers several options for Korea enthusiasts. Fortunately it’s the only Saturday this month when Kiejo Sarsfield isn’t running one of her cookery classes, but even so you won’t be able to do it all. And don’t forget the ongoing exhibitions at the KCC and the V&A.

1. Discover Korea at Leytonstone Arts Trail

First, Sophie Bowman has an exhibition of some of her photographs of Korean landscapes at Harrow Green Library, Cathall Road, E11 4LF as part of the Leytonstone Arts Trail (1-17th July). At the same venue this Saturday Sophie will lead two workshops (10am and 2pm) for children where they can find out a bit about Korea, write their names in Hangeul and dress up a bit: looks fun:

2. Annual Korean Food Fest

Diametrically the other side of London, it’s the annual food fest at the Fountain Pub in New Malden (120 Malden Road, New Malden KT3 6DD), from midday until late afternoon. KAA member and samulnori drummer Jeung Hyun Choi will be doing a samulnori performance at around 12:30 with some of her drumming students. If you are interested in Korean food and music, it will be a great chance to enjoy them both in the Fountain’s large beer garden.

3. K-pop flashmob

To find out where and when this is you’ll have to join the Bring YG to the UK Facebook Group. But expect some spirited renditions of K-pop songs in Central London, probably Trafalgar Square mid-afternoon — with the ultimate aim of persuading the K-pop industry that there’s a ready market and enthusiastic audience for a live K-pop concert in London, like Paris had last month. Come along and show your support.

Me? I always have problems on the day of the Korean Food Fest, because it’s also the day of the Barnes Fair, which is where I’ll be – though I might pop in to the KCC and Trafalgar Square if I get the chance.
