Two eminent novelists are making their way to England to meet Korean literature enthusiasts in London and Kingston:
Eun Hee-kyung
A renowned novelist representing Korea since the 1990s, Eun Hee-kyung is celebrated for her evocative depictions of everyday life and her insightful exploration of life’s subtle truths. Her works vividly portray the nuances of seemingly insignificant daily moments, resonating deeply with readers worldwide.
Lee Geum-yi
A prominent author in children’s and young adult literature, Lee Geum-yi has shaped the landscape of Korean youth literature. Nominated as a finalist for the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2024, she has contributed significantly to the development of literature that empowers young readers.
Lee Geum-yi’s YA historical novels Can’t I Go Instead and The Picture Bride, translated by An Sonjae and published by Forge, are both readily available in UK bookshops. Eun Hee-kyung is known in the UK more for her short stories, and two collections have been published here: Beauty Looks Down on Me and Nobody Checks the Time When They’re Happy – less frequently held in stock by bookshops but readily available online.
The event at Kingston will be chaired by Eugene Kim, translator and Korean Lecturer at Kingston Language Scheme.
