Translator Deborah Smith will join us for an evening of readings and conversation.
Deborah Smith has been studying for a PhD at SOAS, focusing on contemporary Korean fiction, and has also been translating literary works from Korean into English.

Translated for the first time into English, Ahn Do-hyun’s The Salmon Who Dared to Leap Higher (Pan Books, 2015) is a wise, tender and inspiring modern fable about finding freedom and a harmony with nature.

Deborah will be discussing Korean literature as well as explaining how she became a leading translator. She will also read and discuss passages from the novel, with audience questions to follow.
