Covering things Korean in London and beyond since 2006

Koreans and sport #1

They’re doing very well in some baseball tournament or other, of which the highlight was beating Japan. The Korean team’s leading player is the star Park Chan-ho. Must feel good to beat the old rivals across the East Sea.

Meanwhile, not only the prime minister but now the vice-minister for education have been forced to resign for playing golf at an inappropriate time & with inappropriate people. I’ve never seen the attraction of golf (no doubt it’s something else I’ll come round to in my dotage); and now it seems it carries political dangers as well. Is it OK to be playing golf on a national holiday? I personally think it’s as good a time as any, but when the national holiday coincides with the first day of a national rail strike (and one’s golfing buddy seems to have a murky past) one’s political opponents are bound to make an issue of it.
