Lee Chang-dong’s Secret Sunshine gets early thumbs-up

Secret Sunshine 1

Probably the most eagerly awaited Korean film of 2007, at least by me, is Lee Chang-dong’s fourth: Secret Sunshine, or Milyang (밀양). I’ve admired his first three for the issues they tackle and the superb acting: Lee has had access to some top stars for his films – Sol Kyung-gu and Moon So-ri for Oasis and Peppemint Candy, with Han Suk-kyu in the slightly lesser-known Green Fish. And for Milyang we can look forward to Song Kang-ho and Jeon Do-yeon appearing together.

Secret Sunshine 2An early report from this year’s Cannes festival is of an advance screening of Milyang, and the viewer was certainly enthusiastic – about the film, about Song, and particularly about Jeon. Visitors to will know that Darcy has been a fan of Jeon for a while, and one of his wishful predictions for 2007 was that she would win best actress at Cannes for this performance. Who knows?

  1. The picture with the woman and little boy I’ve just looked at, is this to do with the Korean film of 2007 ‘Secret Sunshine’? because I would like to watch this film. Where will I be able to download this film from? By the way, the little boy in this picture is very cute.

  2. Yes, it’s a still from Secret Sunshine.

Downloading? I don’t know. You can probably find it over on, but much better to buy it from YesAsia or your normal sources

  3. Thank you for the reply, Philip. Do you know Jun, the little boys real name in this movie? because I find this boy very funny. Thanks
