BKWS October meeting – “Korean women: on screen and between the covers”

I’ve been putting off this talk for over a year now, but I’ve finally been nailed down.

Korean women – on screen and between the covers

A talk by Philip Gowman
6 October, 7pm, In & Out Club

British Korean Women’s Society monthly meeting

Kim Hye-ja as Mother
Kim Hye-ja as Mother

Philip will be known to many BKWS members as the person behind London Korean Links, the website that he started nearly 10 years ago. He has been following Korean culture through friends, film and literature for over 15 years.

In this talk he will look at some of the stereotypes of Korean women that can be found in the movies, in one or two Korean novels available to English readers, and even in contemporary Korean art. Is there such a thing as a typical Korean woman?
