LKL wandered past the American Embassy yesterday afternoon to see the supporters the UK Korean Friendship Association who were protesting against the annual ROK-US joint military exercises. It will be remembered that the DPRK view of these exercises is that they are offensive, not defensive. Conveniently, the KFA published a press release about the demonstration. Their official photos of the protest can be found on their Facebook page.

UK KFA Picket To Oppose Foal Eagle And Key Resolve

5 March 2016

The UK Korean Friendship Association together with the Association For the Study of Songun Politics UK and Juche Idea Study Group organised a picket of the US Embassy on London at 2pm on the 5th of March to protest against the holding of Foal Eagle and Key Resolve war exercises in south Korea and the imposition of UNSC sanctions on the DPRK.

Present were members of UK KFA, JISGE and ASSPUK and progressive political parties.

Messages of support from KFA branches in Singapore, Denmark and Spain were read out as well as message of support from the Staffordshire branch of the KFA.

Dermot Hudson chairman of UK KFA and President of the ASSPUK addressed the picket saying “The US imperialist aggressors and the south Korean fascist puppets will begin the Foal Eagle and Key Resolve military exercises in less than a weeks time on the 7th of March and these will run until the 30th of April, that is nearly 2 months. The exercises are unprecedented in scale and intensity.

The exercises will involve 15,000 US troops, that is 3 times the usual number. The U.S. imperialist aggression forces’ nuclear-powered submarine North Carolina has already entered Pusan Port and F-22A Stealth fighter-bombers have been deployed in the Osan air force base. The exercises will include so-called “beheading operations” aimed at the physical liquidation of the DPRK supreme leadership and destruction of nuclear and rocket bases of the DPRK.

These exercises come at a time when the US imperialists, south Korean puppets and world reactionaries have run amok in their efforts to stifle Korean-style socialism by means of ‘additional UNSC sanctions’ and the so-called’ human rights ‘ campaign. The US imperialists and their lackeys throughout the world have unfairly and hypocritically taken issue with the legitimate satellite launch of the DPRK and the self-defensive H bomb test.

Foal Eagle and Key Resolve are neither “defensive ” nor ‘routine’ as claimed. They include detailed plans for the rehearsal and invasion of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea of Korea. It is a nonsensical sophistry to assert that as they are “routine ” so do pose a threat. The analogy can be used of a fire drill in an office building or factory , these are not held for the sake of “routine” but as a practice for the real thing. It is the same with “Foal Eagle ” and “Key Resolve.

The US imperialists should not be holding military exercises on Korean soil many miles from its homeland. It is a grave violation of the sovereignty of the Korean nation.

Foal Eagle and Key Resolve exercises aim at invading the DPRK and occupying it. They are aimed at destroying the socialist system of the DPRK. They are a grave challenge to the independence and sovereignty of the DPRK. Also Foal Eagle and Key Resolve are a serious threat to peace in the Asia Pacific region.

We call for the immediate cancellation of Foal Eagle and Key Resolve and the unconditional withdrawal of US troops from Korea. Moreover a broad labour movement and peace movement campaign must be mounted against Foal Eagle and Key Resolve. Foal and Key Resolve must be stopped in their tracks.”

He also denounced the UNSC sanctions saying “It is a diabolic outrage that the UN Security Council have imposed so -called ‘additional sanctions’ on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea for the mere fact that it refused to submit to the world dictatorship of the US and exercised its sovereignty by launching a satellite and conducting a self defensive H bomb test. These sanctions are a declaration of war and a negation of the DPRK’s sovereignty.

The sanctions are truly unjust and extreme as they include sanctions on the DPRK National Aerospace Development Administration, which is a civilian space agency. This is unprecedented in the history of the UN. These sanctions are a mean attempt by the US and its cohorts to put a spoke in the wheel of socialist construction in the DPRK and stifle the socialist system of the DPRK.

The UN Security Council has lost any impartiality it had become a marionette, a rubber stamp and an executive enforcement agency of US imperialism. We believe that guided by the Juche idea and the principle of self-reliance the DPRK will defeat the sanctions. However the sanctions constitute an aggressive and ill willed act towards the DPRK and a grave infringement of it’s sovereignty. We call on all progressive organisation and anti-imperialists to oppose the sanctions and campaign against them.”

Dermot Hudson concluded that “We believe that the US imperialists and their followers have made a very grave miscalculation in carrying this resolution and will pay dearly for it. Victory belongs to Juche Korea led by dear respected leader Marshal KIM JONG UN !”

The statement of the DPRK government on the sanctions and the crucial statement of the KPA Supreme Command were read out.

Picketers chanted the following slogans

DPRK flags, WPK flags, Reunification flags and the UK KFA banner were displayed.
Discussions were held with passers by
Picket concluded at 4.05pm

  1. Did you speak to them? Despite the name of the organisation, I didn’t see evidence of liking for, or intrinsic interest in Korea, North or South, on its Facebook page. I wonder if any ot the members have any real interest in the country beyond the anti-American sloganising.

  2. Just to respond to Michael Duffy’s comments . In fact several of those on the picket had visited the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea including 1 person who had visited the country 10 times since 1992 and another one who had made about 7 or 8 visits.
Many UK KFA members are interested in the DPRK’s Moranbong Band as well as DPRK films such as ‘The Case Is Closed ‘ and ‘Order 027 ‘ to name just a few . Those UK KFA members who have visited the DPRK enjoy Korean food such as Kochujang hot pepper paste and Kimchi
