Joo Yeon Sir

We’re delighted to welcome West-London based solo violinist, Joo Yeon Sir, for a very special solo performance at River Sessions. Joo Yeon will be playing a selection of solo pieces, including some from her latest album, Solitude.

Prize-winning violinist and composer Joo Yeon Sir has appeared as a soloist with the Royal Philharmonic, Philharmonia, and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestras, at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Wales Millennium Centre, and Liverpool Symphony Hall.

Joo Yeon’s latest album Solitude, released in May 2022, was borne from her experience of the pandemic. For Joo Yeon, this was a period of self-reflection, discovery, and growth. She turned to solo violin repertoire, new works, and revisited her favourite classics, finding both freedom and companionship.

Born in Korea, Joo Yeon moved to London at the age of 9, to begin her formative training at the Purcell School of Music, where she now teaches. During this period, Joo Yeon won the prestigious BBC/Guardian Young Composer of the Year Award, the Royal College of Music’s President’s Award, and has since received numerous prizes of note, including the Royal Philharmonic Society’s ‘Emily Anderson Award’.

Joo Yeon plays on a Matteo Goffriller violin kindly provided by Georg von Opel.
