Some photos from the exhibition of new work by Kang Soon-yul – Between Heart and Mind – at Han Collection last month.
Her work is hanji collage in squares, circles and spheres created out of tiny fragments of paper on which words such as “Love”, “Heart/Mind” and “Mother” are painstakingly hand-written. As she says in the exhibition announcement, “Circle and square refer to the harmony of Yin-Yang but I also use a circle in my works to convey a sense of immortality and of an on-going journey in life.” The countless repetition of the handwritten words give the works a meditative quality.
