
Please join the Cambridge Korean Studies department for this year’s Ra Jong-yil lecture given by Professor Chin Jungkwon (진중권), former professor of the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Dongyang University and director of the Institute of Techno-aesthetics. The title of the talk is “Korean Democracy in Crisis?” and will take place this Wednesday (15 June) at 1pm UK time/9pm ROK time.
Chin Jungkwon studied Aesthetics at Seoul National University, and received a master’s degree in Aesthetics from SNU. He continued studies in Germany, focusing on Wittgenstein’s philosophy of language at the Free University of Berlin. As a professor of the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Dongyang University and the director of the Institute of Technoaesthetics, he had been leading multidisciplinary studies connecting arts, game and design, before he resigned from professorship in 2020 for practicing political criticism.
He is now active in broadcastings as a political commentator and writing articles on political issues for newspapers. Publications include ‘Odyssey of Aesthetics’, `Lectures on Contemporary Aesthetics’, ‘History of Western Arts’, ‘History of Five Senses’, ‘Theories of Media’, ‘Decline of the Progressive’ and more.
