Once again one of the featured craftsmen at the Korea Craft and Design Foundation stall at Collect 2015 was lacquerware artist Chung Haecho, who on his first appearance in 2013 had work collected by the Victoria & Albert Museum, and whose work greeted you first as you approached the stall. But this year it was […]

A look at the contemporary Korean designers at Tent London 2014
Four Korean design studios came to Tent London this year. There’s a gallery of their stalls at the bottom of this brief post. Zeup Design Studio presented some colourful pens which looked like pieces of lemongrass, while Kim HyunJoo Studio presented pens that also doubled as clips and as bookmarks. It was a shame the […]

Killer creativity at the RCA graduate show
A quick tour of the Royal College of Art degree show last weekend showed just how many Korean artists and designers there are in London. I had gone along to see the work of a handful of friends whose work I had got to know through various exhibitions over the past couple of years, and […]

A reason to go to Gangnam?
LKL has never been a particular fan of South of the Han. Most things we want to do and see tend to be North of the river. But like it or not, it’s where the money is. Reflecting the opulent demographic, in September this year Diageo opened Johnnie Walker House Seoul in Cheongdam-dong, its third […]

Korean jewellers at the 2013 Goldsmiths Fair
The annual Goldsmiths Fair of jewellery and silverware usually has a few young Korean jewellers displaying their latest designs. This year they seemed to be outnumbered by the Japanese, but it was good to see Misun Won return for now her fourth appearance at this prestigious show. Despite the depressing economic times, the livery hall […]
