Hanna Bites the Dust

Hanna Supermarket

This is not new news to many of you, but I only found out about it a week or so ago. My favourite Korean food store in the centre of town, Hanna Supermarket in Store Street, is closed down. And by the looks of things, pretty permanently:

Bailiff notice

There are other Korean food stores in town, some have staff who speak better English, some may have more varied stock. But Hanna was the one I always went to, maybe because it was the first one I was introduced to. It had those nice dried anchovies in pepper sauce which I couldn’t find anywhere else. It was jolly convenient for a quick visit from SOAS, whether for a tasty bibimbap at lunchtime in their informal downstairs cafe, or to stock up the fridge with kimchi and soju. And it was not plagued by the constant road works which make a visit to the Centre Point Food Store something of an obstacle course.

Still, there are other stores. Since I first compiled the list a couple of years ago, I’ve added one or two that I came across by chance, strolling around Bloombsury and Soho. Do tell me if you find any more so that I can add them to the list.

  1. yeah – they had a big stock sell off at church a couple of months back πŸ™
The couple in Bloomsbury near the British Museum seem like nice places, and, as you say Centre point is probably now the biggest one. If I hear of any more I’ll let you know
