An account of the construction of the Seoul & Chemulpo Railroad, the first railroad of Korea, and its relationship to the murder of Queen Min. The book also includes a summary of the railroad’s place within the framework of the history of Korean-American diplomacy and is illustrated with over 200 photographs. Seventy-six of the photographs are related to the construction of the Seoul & Chemulpo Railroad, many have never been published previously. Also included are biographical sketches of people from the era that the railroad was constructed, many of whom had ties to the railroad industry of Chattanooga, Tennessee and were directly involved in the railroad’s construction.
