Sleeping pills. Sleep. A dream. The dream world is almost like reality, but not quite. The sun is bright, but not warm. People’s faces shift and morph. Most importantly, in this world, he can do whatever he wants without consequence.
The man, as always, is tending to the camellia bush in the yard and I, as always, am absentmindedly watching the butterfly that hovers around the flowers.
“Can’t you give me a little more?” the man implores, putting down his garden shears.
I open my mouth to talk but stop myself. It’s never easy confessing to murder, of course. Even if it is only in my dream.
A man living a dreary existence finds himself caught between two worlds. In one, he works at a convenience store and steals alcohol to drink alone in his dingy studio apartment. In the other, he strolls through upscale neighborhoods and carries out his most violent whims without consequence or fear.
One day, everything changes when two detectives come knocking at his door. They question him regarding a grisly murder that was just committed in his neighborhood, a murder that sounds awfully similar to the one he committed in his dream…
Soon the man finds his two worlds colliding, the lines between reality and dream blurring beyond recognition.
