One night, a giant butterfly shadow sweeps over a city and its inhabitants. Most people rise the next morning to a day just like any other. Some, however, never wake up. Afflicted with the Butterfly Disease, they lose themselves in a series of pleasant dreams that always end in death.

As always the sun began to set, and a pristine white background unfolded before her. But today, something was different. She could see a shadow in the distance. The shadow was the shape of a butterfly. Hyeseung stared straight at it. The harbinger of death.

When Hyeseung finds herself lucid dreaming every night, she realizes she is the latest victim of the Butterfly Disease. She has no intention of waking up, however. A failed artist who no longer derives any joy from life, she is perfectly content to stay cocooned in her dreams. She picks up her brush and becomes the creator of worlds, creating the reality she always wanted but never achieved. She becomes a world-famous artist and exacts revenge on a cruel ex-lover.

Always by her side is the handsome and faithful Myung, the one person she can count on to be present in every dream. One day, as Hyeseung stands before her pristine canvas ready to paint that day’s setting into existence, she sees a shadow far away in the distance. A shadow in the shape of a butterfly.

As the shadow draws nearer, Hyeseung knows she has a decision to make. Will she finally face reality, or will she stay in the safety of her dream world forever?
