Kim Eui-kyung’s new work “Hello Baby”, which won the 6th Surim Literature Award for his novel “Call Center”, has been published by Ginkgo Publishing House. The change in the average age of marriage, the reality that it is not until the mid-to-late thirties that pregnancy and childbirth can be planned. The psychological pressure that you can’t help but feel in the process. However, even in this situation, society is relatively less interested in how long and difficult times people who desperately want children have to endure and fight. Hello Baby tells the honest and fierce story of women in their thirties and forties who met at a fertility hospital with such concerns. In the novel, infertile women from various occupations – lawyers, journalists, veterinarians, housewives, etc. – who have come together in the intersection of infertility – appear. They are running a long-distance marathon with a common goal in mind, creating a short chat room ‘Hello Baby’ to share useful information, support each other, and comfort each other. Kim Eui-kyung borrows their voices to push readers to stories that may be our present and perhaps the future.
“Moonjeong, who pushed through the glass door with her husband, was surprised to see people filling the waiting area. I couldn’t believe that fertility hospitals in a country with a serious low birth rate were so crowded.”
